Olvi's Lace 4807 is an off-the-shoulder floral lace gown with long fitted sleeves that run all the way to the wrist, a detail most listings of this style leave out entirely. The lace itself is the story: a Dutch stretch lace worked in a painterly multicolor floral, deep blue and navy blooms shot through with rose, blush and soft green over a nude ground, so the pattern reads as a print from across a ballroom and as fine embroidery up close. Because the lace is engineered with elastane (59% polyamide, 31% viscose, 10% elastane over a 92% polyamide, 8% elastane lining) it contours rather than constrains, skimming the bust and waist, holding the hip, then releasing below the knee into a mermaid flare that finishes in a sweeping lace train. The floral lace continues unbroken across the back and shoulders with no exposed zipper interrupting the pattern, which is why the gown photographs cleanly from behind during a processional or a first dance. Jan's carries 4807 in the Devotion colorway in sizes 2 through 20; the designer photographs the same style as Waterlilly, and because every all-lace Olvi's style can be cut in any shade from a house palette of more than one hundred laces, a mother who needs to meet a specific wedding palette can order this gown in a different color rather than settle for the closest thing on a rack. Each one is made by hand to order on roughly a six to eight week schedule, so it belongs early in the planning calendar rather than the week of the wedding. It was designed for the mother of the bride or groom, and it carries just as well to a black-tie gala or charity event, a formal wedding guest invitation, or any evening on the evening and cocktail calendar. One clarification worth making, because search engines routinely confuse the two: this is Olvi's Lace style 4807, a floor-length stretch-lace evening gown, and it is not the Alyce Paris Homecoming 4807 short beaded dress that happens to share the same style number.
Photographs flatten this lace. The blue reads darker on a screen than it does in a room, and the way stretch lace settles over a real figure is something only a mirror will tell you, which is why we would rather you came and tried it on. Jan's Boutique is at 406 Marlton Pike E, Cherry Hill, NJ 08034, about fifteen minutes from Center City Philadelphia across the Ben Franklin Bridge and an easy drive from Moorestown, Marlton, Voorhees, Haddonfield, Mount Laurel, Washington Township, Wilmington and the Main Line. The showroom runs 13,000 square feet with 50 private dressing rooms and more than 15,000 dresses on the floor, so you can set this gown beside other lace and best-selling evening styles, including extended evening sizes and current evening and cocktail markdowns, in one visit instead of four. Jan's Boutique charges no sales tax on clothing, so the number on the tag is the number you pay even if you are driving in from Pennsylvania or Delaware. On-site alterations are done in house by our own fitters, which matters on a stretch-lace mermaid where sleeve length and hem have to be set to you. Call 856-428-8181 to ask when Devotion is arriving or to start a special-color order, and book an appointment before you come, since try-ons are by appointment.
